    • Turn your unwanted presents into a donation for charity this year - East Kent Mencap is a local learning disability charity, who can put your gifts to good use! They regularly hold raffles to generate funds for the charity. Research by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) showed that 58% of people have given an unwanted Christmas present either to a charity or to someone else, so why not join the re-gifting trend and help raise funds for people with a learning disability?     • Thanet Community Forest School are looking for volunteers to help transform a 5-acre landfill site into a native woodland. You will be with people who care about the environment and want to make a difference. They are open Monday to Friday 9.30am to 3pm.     • Cliftonville residents WE NEED YOU. If you care about where you live and want to help support improvements to the area then please join ABC - A Better Cliftonville. ABC is a resident-led group who listen to the community and find ways to work together to tackle concerns through positive action. ABC has helped gain recycling for the area, reduce dog fouling, improve street cleanliness, as well supporting other groups and activities. ABC work closely with staff at Thanet District Council and other agencies to feed in directly from resident to remedy. We are always looking for people to help. Can you give just a little bit of time - maybe you like taking minutes or litter picking, gardening or door knocking in the area? We have many different ways you can get involved.     • Dane Valley Woods is run by volunteers on a former landfill site in Margate. They raise funds and engage local people in creating, developing and managing a community green space for enjoyment, learning, health and wildlife. New helpers are always welcome. There are practical task mornings on the last Sunday of the month (except December), between 10am and 1pm. More details at danevalleywoods.org or contact them via Facebook and Twitter.

    • Too much wool, not enough time? Then why not donate it to learning disability charity, East Kent Mencap, who are on a top secret mission. If you're into knitting or crochet, then you could also be part of this mission. In preparation, the charity is organising a number of workshops over the next few months. So, whether you're a beginner in knitting or an expert in crochet, come along to learn, teach others and share ideas.     • Join Team Oasis as a volunteer: Oasis Domestic Abuse Service is seeking to fill a number of volunteering roles, from helping in the boutique charity shop to admin support, to events support opportunities. If you can spare some time and fancy joining a supportive and fun team, please email recruitment@oasisdaservice.org

    • YouCan is a Kent-based charity who offer support to young people whose lives are impacted by cancer. They organise workshops to build self-esteem, set up fitness programmes, provide counselling, help promote healthy eating and offer complimentary therapies. They also have a beautiful house in Westgate-on-Sea where young people and their families can enjoy a recuperating seaside break, and will be welcoming their first family to stay at the end of May. They are currently raising awareness to enable them to reach out to young people who may need their services across Thanet and East Kent. If you wish to refer a young person who has cancer or is struggling to cope with a family member who has the illness, please contact hello@you-can.org.uk for a form.

    • Margate Museum is looking for voluntary museum assistants to help out on Saturdays, Sundays, Wednesdays and Bank Holidays. The museum is responsible for the Margate Collection, including caring for its permanent displays and preparing new seasonal exhibitions.
